About two years ago, while I was quietly monitoring a group of students at school, I received a phone call that would become a pivotal moment in my faith journey. I whispered, “Hello?”—not expecting anything other than a quick conversation. On the other end was Father Philip.
To my surprise, he asked if I would be interested in leading a women’s Bible study at St. Robert’s. I was excited and overwhelmed all at once. For years, I had prayed for the opportunity to join a Bible study—not lead one! I had envisioned myself as a participant, sitting quietly, learning, and soaking it all in. But God had other plans.
Though I'm a teacher by profession and comfortable leading a group, I hesitated. My concern wasn't about teaching—it was the vulnerability of putting myself out there. Would anyone even show up?
But with prayer and a leap of faith, I said yes. That first night, over 40 women walked through the doors. I was floored. Since then, each session of the Walking with Purpose Bible study has been met with such enthusiasm and grace. What began as a step into the unknown has become one of the most life-giving parts of my spiritual life.
Through this ministry, I’ve come to realize something beautiful: these women are just like me. We’re all longing for connection, for scripture, for encouragement, for prayer. We laugh, share, cry, vent, and grow—together.
God has a funny way of answering prayers. I asked to join a Bible study... and He said, “Yvette, go and lead one.”
I’m so grateful to Father Philip for making that call, & even more grateful to the Lord for the grace to say yes.
